A Note from Mrs. Korovessis

I am so proud of our TITANS who worked so hard this year to submit a project for National History Day!  This year’s theme was “Debate and Diplomacy:  Successes and Failures”, and it was very challenging.  Some of these projects are submitted by students in my AP Geography Class who completed almost all their work outside of class time, and I am very proud of their work!

Two projects are from groups who are members and on the executive board of the National History Day Club here at Colony, and their projects fulfilled a lot of the rigorous requirements for NHD, including a process paper and annotated bibliography!  I want to give a special shout out to the NHD Club’s hard working Executive Board:

President:  Andie May Chua (President), Michaela Espinosa (Vice President) Karen Martin (Co-Vice President) Lana Therese Mendiola (Secretary) and Myling Devin (Treasurer).  Without the tireless efforts of these exemplary Titans, there would not be an NHD Club here at Colony!

National History Day (NHD) is an annual contest that engages students nationwide in the extensive research of a historical topic. Students work exhaustively in both exploring history and creating a product that demonstrates mastery of their topic. Each year, the NHD organization identifies a theme for that year's student competition. This year's theme is"Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures and Consequences."  Students choose any topic within this theme and design a product that fits into one of the following categories: paper, performance, documentary, exhibit, or website. Learn more about the five categories by clicking here. Students then compete at the local and possibly national levels. Students who participate in this project have shown improvement in critical thinking, writing, research, and 21st century college- and career-ready skills. They have shown growth in their ability to analyze and synthesize information, collaborate with peers, and manage their time. In addition, participants have learned perseverance and strong work habits. Learn more about the many benefits of this project by clicking here.
